Maria Roosen

Stedelijk Museum Schiedam bracht in 2026 een eerbetoon aan kunstenaar Maria Roosen en haar oeuvre dat meer dan veertig jaar beslaat. Haar werk gaat over het leven en zijn vergankelijkheid.

“Mijn werk gaat altijd over de verbeelding van hoe ik dingen heb waargenomen of gebeurtenissen die ik wil verbeelden. Daar zoek ik het enige juiste materiaal voor, soms in aquarel, dan glas, hout of textiel.” 

 

It is impossible to imagine the Dutch artworld without Maria Roosen. Her work explores themes of growth, blossoming, fertility, love, and transience and is frequently shown during group exhibitions focusing on the female perspective.

Maria Roosen: “In the beginning of my art practice it was absolutely not done for artists to say that their work had evolved from their intuition. It was dismissed as art for women. The fact that today there is more space and acceptance for this is wonderful, but at the same time also a dire necessity.”

Stephan Balkenhol

 Stephan Balkenhol
staat bekend om zijn figuratieve houten sculpturen en reliëfs. Hakkend en snijdend in hout onthult Balkenhol figuren uit de stam van een boom, alsof ze er altijd al in verborgen zaten. Kunsthal Rotterdam heeft een boeiende tentoonstelling van hem.

He is known for his figurative wooden sculptures and reliefs. While chopping and cutting away in the wood, Balkenhol unearths figures from the trunk of a tree as if they were already hiding inside. Kunsthal Rotterdam has an exiting exhibition of his works.

Ron Mueck is bekend geworden om zijn enorm realistische sculpturen en zijn spel met schaalvergroting en -verkleining. In Museum Voorlinden is een retrospectief van deze Australische kunstenaar te zien.

Australian artist Ron Mueck is famous for his realistic and intimate sculptures that convey universal human experiences and feelings. At Museum Voorlinden (Wassenaar NL)  you can see very early and recent work, often monumentally large or surprisingly small.

Overzichtstentoonstelling van Giuseppe Penone in Voorlinden
Met zijn sculpturen, installaties en fotografie benadrukt Giuseppe Penone telkens de onlosmakelijke band tussen mens en natuur. Hij werkt met materialen die hij rechtstreeks uit de natuur haalt, zoals bomen, marmer en zelfs aardappelen. Hij kneedt, beitelt, timmert en zaagt, op zoek naar sporen van een geleefd leven en onzichtbare groeiprocessen.

For Giuseppe Penone, nature is – and trees in particular are – both subject and material. In his sculptures, installations and drawings he incorporates tree trunks, leaves, marble and leather. In his poetic oeuvre he reveals our intimate connection with nature and makes us aware of its creative and transformative cycle and forces. For example, in Ripetere il bosco (1968) Penone peels off the annual rings of a tree to reveal its origins. Gormley onder de bomen

 

Museum Voorlinden wijdt een groot deel van het museum aan één kunstenaar: Britse kunstenaar Antony Gormley. Met zijn sculpturen, installaties en kunst in de openbare ruimte onderzoekt Gormley de relatie tussen het menselijk lichaam en de ruimte om ons heen. De overzichtstentoonstelling GROUND is binnen en buiten te zien. Hieronder een indruk van de beelden in de bossen en duinen rond het museum.
