Yayoi Kusama

Het Stedelijk Museum Schiedam presenteert een tentoonstelling gewijd aan de Nederlandse jaren van de Japanse kunstenaar Yayoi Kusama. Het werk uit de vroege jaren van Kusama [Yayoi Kusama. De Nederlandse jaren 1965-1970] schetst een verrassend beeld van een zelfbewuste jonge Kusama, die in het Nederland van provo, happenings en jeugdcultuur de basis legt voor haar wereldveroverende artistieke oeuvre.

The Stedelijk Museum Schiedam NL presents an exhibition dedicated to the Dutch years of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. On display are the works she made during the various periods in which she lived and worked in the Netherlands. The exhibition Yayoi Kusama. The Dutch Years 1965-1970 paints a surprising new picture of a self-aware young Kusama, who laid the foundations for her world-conquering artistic oeuvre in a version of the Netherlands characterised by its Provo counterculture movement, happenings and youth culture.

Naïef Realisme / Naive Realism

Naïef Realisme. Van Rousseau tot Grandma Moses
Onbevangen, fantasievol en ontroerend eenvoudig. Dat lijkt de onweerstaanbare aantrekkingskracht van naïef realisme. Museum MORE in Gorssel bracht dit jaar naïef realisten uit de Verenigde Staten en Europa samen.

Zonder formele kunstopleiding klommen in de jaren 1920-1945 naïef realisten naar de artistieke top, aan beide kanten van de oceaan. Hun schijnbaar eenvoudige landschappen, intieme huiselijke taferelen, ongeveinsde portretten en kleurrijke stillevens spraken tot de verbeelding van publiek en het artistieke establishment.

Naive Realism | From Rousseau to Grandma Moses
Uninhibited, imaginative and touchingly uncomplicated. This appears to be the irresistible appeal of naive realism. This year, Museum MORE in the Dutch village of Gorssel displayed paintings by renowned and less well-known naive realists from the United States and Europe.

Without formal artistic schooling, naive realists on both sides of the Atlantic scrambled to the artistic peak between 1920 and 1945. Their seemingly straightforward landscapes, intimate domestic scenes, sincere portraits and colourful still lifes fired the imagination of the public and the artistic establishment.

Blik op Haarlem

Bijzondere Haarlemse stadsgezichten
uit de 17de eeuw in het Frans Hals Museum

Haarlem is al eeuwenlang een geliefd onderwerp voor schilders. De vergezichten met de Bavokerk aan de horizon waren in de 17de eeuw zó populair dat ze zelfs een eigen naam kregen: Haarlempjes. Deze Haarlempjes en andere bijzondere stadsgezichten zijn te zien in de eerste tentoonstelling ooit gewijd aan het 17de-eeuwse Haarlemse stadsgezicht.

The city of Haarlem has been a favourite subject among artists for centuries. In the 17th century, these views of the city, with St Bavo’s church towering on the horizon, were so popular, they even had a special name: ‘Haarlempjes’. These panoramas and city scenes are featured in the exhibition dedicated to the 17th-century depiction of Haarlem.

Alex Katz

Museum Voorlinden in Wassenaar NL toonde een tentoonstelling van de legendarische Amerikaanse schilder Alex Katz. Je kon er een selectie uit het rijke oeuvre van de nog altijd actieve 95-jarige kunstenaar zien, waaronder iconische portretten, platte sculpturen (cut-outs) en monumentale landschappen. Hier een kleine terugblik.
