Materialen en technieken dagen industrieel ontwerpers uit om te komen tot nieuwe vormen en modellen. Een van de oudste materialen en technieken die we kennen – het bakken van klei tot keramiek – staat nu weer in grote belangstelling. Designers herontdekken dit oeroude materiaal en geven er – letterlijk en figuurlijk – een nieuwe draai aan.

Today, industrial designers are very much challenged to develop new forms and models.
One of the oldest technics is transforming clay into ceramics, very attractive for modern artists.
Their products are seductive and exciting.

Ogata Gekko en tijdgenoten

Ogata Gekkō en zijn tijdgenoten.
Was een tentoonstelling in Japanmuseum Sieboldhuis Leiden.
Naast ruim honderd werken van Ogata Gekkō (1859 – 1920) zijn er veertig kunstwerken van zijn tijdgenoten te zien. Deze tentoonstelling geeft een nieuwe kijk op de prentkunst uit de Meiji-periode (1868-1912).

Bob Bonies

Bob Bonies. Was een tentoonstelling in Kunstmuseum Den Haag.
Kunstenaar Bob Bonies (Den Haag, 1937) heeft een oeuvre opgebouwd dat inmiddels zes decennia beslaat. Sinds de jaren zestig maakt hij zogenaamde concrete kunst; geometrisch abstracte schilderijen die gezichtsbepalend zijn voor de abstracte kunst in Nederland en tot op de dag van vandaag een eigentijds karakter hebben. De monochrome kleurvlakken refereren aan niets anders dan wat ze zijn: kleur en vorm

Artist Bob Bonies (b. 1937, The Hague) has created a body of work that now spans six decades. Since the 1960s he has been making ‘concrete art’, abstract geometric paintings that have defined the look of abstract art in the Netherlands, and still appear contemporary today. Popel Coumou in Fotomuseum Den Haag

Popel Coumou, Papier en Licht. Was een tentoonstelling in Fotomuseum Den Haag.
Kunstenaar-fotograaf Popel Coumou (1978) speelt in haar werk met de belangrijkste elementen van de fotografie: licht, papier en de perceptie van de werkelijkheid. Door haar collages van papier gericht te belichten voegt zij aan het papieren reliëf een derde dimensie toe. Zo komt het platte vlak tot leven.

Popel Coumou constructs works using layers of paper that are positioned over and alongside each other. The visual effect is graphic and playful. Her lines, surfaces and colours join forces in an organic way, while also imparting a certain tension to the image. Igor Mitoraj

Façade. Onder die naam toont Museum Beelden aan Zee in Scheveningen een uitgebreid overzicht van de beelden van kunstenaar, Igor Mitoraj (1944-2014).
Igor Mitoraj bracht zijn werkzame leven grotendeels in Italië door waar hij lange tijd woonde in Pietrasanta, het bekende Toscaanse beeldhouwersdorp bij de marmergroeven van Carrara. Geïnspireerd door de schoonheid van de klassieke oudheid maar met een eigentijds inzicht in de menselijke conditie creëerde Mitoraj vele monumentale sculpturen in brons en marmer.

Façade. It's the name of an exhibition in the Beelden aan Zee museum ( Scheveningen/ The Hague) with various pieces of sculpture by Igor Mitoraj (1944-2014).
Igor Mitoraj was a polish sculptor, educated at the Art Academy in Kraków. Shortly afterwards, he became fascinated by Latin American art and culture, spending a year painting and travelling around Mexico. Later he moved to Italy, worked in Pietrasanta, the Toscan village of sculpture near Carrara. Mitoraj's sculptural style is rooted in the classical tradition.
