Van Gogh in Auvers

Van Gogh in Auvers. Zijn laatste maanden. Een tentoonstelling van Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam.
Vincent van Gogh woonde de laatste maanden van zijn leven in het Franse dorp Auvers-sur-Oise, vlak bij Parijs, van 20 mei 1890 tot aan zijn dood op 29 juli dat jaar. Hij was in die maanden zeer productief: in 70 dagen maakte hij maar liefst 74 schilderijen en meer dan 50 tekeningen. Een uitzonderlijk hoge productie, zelfs voor Van Gogh. Hij maakte er enkele van zijn bekendste meesterwerken, zoals Korenveld met kraaien, Dokter Paul Gachet en De kerk van Auvers-sur-Oise.

Vincent van Gogh lived in the French village of Auvers-sur-Oise near Paris, from 20 May 1890 until his death on 29 July of the same year. He was tremendously productive in these months and made several of his most renowned masterpieces, including Wheatfield with Crows, Doctor Paul Gachet, and The Church of Auvers-sur-Oise.

Heerlijke Herinneringen
Vlaams expressionisme. Een tentoonstelling in Kunstmuseum Den Haag.
Op het Vlaamse platteland lijken na de Eerste Wereldoorlog de roaring twenties op het eerste gezicht ver weg. Maar wie goed luistert hoort de jazz over de rivier de Leie schallen... De moderne wereld dringt steeds meer door, ook in de schilderijen van Gustave De Smet (1877-1943) en Frits Van den Berghe (1883-1939). Zij behoren tot de belangrijkste schilders van wat in de jaren 1920 het 'Vlaamse expressionisme' wordt genoemd, en brengen de moderne figuratieve schilderkunst in België tot een hoogtepunt.

At first sight, the Roaring Twenties seem a world away from the Flemish countryside in the aftermath of the First World War. But if you listen carefully, you can hear the strains of jazz crossing the Leie river... The modern world is making inroads, also in the paintings of Gustave De Smet (1877-1943) and Frits Van den Berghe (1883-1939). They were the leading figures in what would come to be known as Flemish Expressionism and brought modern figurative painting in Belgium to its high point.

Twee maanden op Curaçao

Stedelijk Museum Schiedam toont een overzicht van het werk van de Nederlandse kunstenaar Frieda Hunziker (1908-1966). Speciale aandacht in de tentoonstelling Frieda Hunziker. Een vlucht naar Curaçao gaat uit naar de reis naar Curaçao die Hunziker in 1951 maakt. Daar ligt volop inspiratie voor haar geabstraheerde figuratieve schilderijen uit de jaren kort na de oorlog en voor voor vrijer kleurrijk werk.
De tentoonstelling wordt gecombineerd met het perspectief van kunstenaars met wortels op Curaçao die met hun blik naar het eiland kijken.

Two months in Curaçao
Stedelijk Museum Schiedam presents a retrospective of the Dutch artist Frieda Hunziker (1908-1966).
The exhibition Frieda Hunziker. A Flight to Curaçao tells the story of Hunziker’s trip to the island in 1951. There, she found much inspiration; her abstract figurative paintings that dominated the war years gave way to freer, more colourful works. The exhibition combines Frieda Hunziker’s gaze, a visitor to the island, with that of artists with roots in Curaçao: observing the island from an insider’s perspective.
