Margaret Kilgallen

Margaret Kilgallen: that's where the beauty is. Een bijzondere overzichtstentoonstelling van de Amerikaanse kunstenares Margaret Kilgallen (1967 – 2001) in het Bonnefanten Museum Maastricht. Kilgallen maakte in de jaren ’90 in San Francisco furore met haar lijntekeningen die nauw verband houden met de verschillende subculturen en feministische thema’s.
Kilgallens werk is doorregen met historische ontwikkelingen. Zo verbeeldt ze in meerdere werken uithangborden en winkelpuien van het Mission District. In deze uithangborden schemert een geschiedenis door van migratie, burgerrechten en “The American Dream”.

Kilgallen’s work is laced with historical developments. For example, in several works she depicts signs and shop fronts from the Mission District, which hint at a history of migration, civil rights and The American Dream.

Berlinde De Bruyckere

De tentoonstelling Berlinde De Bruyckere: Engelenkeel in Bonnefanten Museum Maastricht toont recent werk van deze kunstenaar. De Bruyckeres indringende sculpturen kennen een lange, ingewikkelde maakgeschiedenis. Veel van haar werk is opgebouwd uit was, hars, touw en huiden of doeken, die ze soms jaren blootstelt aan de elementen alvorens ze te verwerken. De rauwe sculpturen vragen ondanks hun confronterende karakter om aanraking, streling, warmte, en stralen de tastbaarheid van het bestaan uit.

In Bonnefanten Museum Maastricht NL shows the exhibition "Berlinde De Bruyckere: Engelenkeel" her recent works. De Bruyckere’s compelling sculptures have a long and complex creative history. Much of her work is constructed of wax, resin, rope, skins and canvas, which she sometimes exposes to the elements for years before incorporating them into her art. Despite their confronting character the sculptures cry out to be touched and stroked, and exude warmth and the tangibility of existence.
