Museum MORE in Gorssel, in de Gelderse gemeente Lochem, is gewijd is aan Nederlandse modern-realistische kunst. De nadruk ligt hierbij op 20ste-eeuwse en hedendaagse kunst.

Naïef Realisme / Naive Realism

Naïef Realisme. Van Rousseau tot Grandma Moses
Onbevangen, fantasievol en ontroerend eenvoudig. Dat lijkt de onweerstaanbare aantrekkingskracht van naïef realisme. Museum MORE in Gorssel bracht dit jaar naïef realisten uit de Verenigde Staten en Europa samen. 

Zonder formele kunstopleiding klommen in de jaren 1920-1945 naïef realisten naar de artistieke top, aan beide kanten van de oceaan. Hun schijnbaar eenvoudige landschappen, intieme huiselijke taferelen, ongeveinsde portretten en kleurrijke stillevens spraken tot de verbeelding van publiek en het artistieke establishment.

Naive Realism | From Rousseau to Grandma Moses
Uninhibited, imaginative and touchingly uncomplicated. This appears to be the irresistible appeal of naive realism. This year, Museum MORE in the Dutch village of Gorssel displayed paintings by renowned and less well-known naive realists from the United States and Europe. 

Without formal artistic schooling, naive realists on both sides of the Atlantic scrambled to the artistic peak between 1920 and 1945. Their seemingly straightforward landscapes, intimate domestic scenes, sincere portraits and colourful still lifes fired the imagination of the public and the artistic establishment.
