Peter Paul Rubens

De schilder Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) bereidde zijn werken doorgaans voor met een schets van olieverf op paneel. Een groot overzicht van zijn olieverfschetsen is te vinden in de tentoonstelling Pure Rubens in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam. De ‘god van de schilders’ werd Rubens  door zijn tijdgenoten genoemd. 

In the early 17th century, Rubens was one of Europe’s most successful painters. The exhibition ‘Pure Rubens’ in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen Rotterdam is a large overview of Rubens’ oil sketches. Rubens usually prepared his works with an oil sketch on panel. Each of the oil sketches displays the brilliant touch of the master himself.
