Anni & Josef Albers
Anni (1899-1994) en Josef (1888-1976) ontmoetten elkaar in 1922 tijdens hun opleiding aan het befaamde Bauhaus. Door de opkomst van de nationaalsocialisten verhuisde het duo in 1933 naar de Verenigde Staten. Daar doceerden ze tot 1949 aan het al even befaamde Black Mountain College in North Carolina.
Josef kreeg als kunstenaar naam door zijn Homages to the Square.
Anni werd beroemd met haar textielkunst. Ze was de eerste ontwerper die een solotentoonstelling kreeg in het Museum of Modern Art in New York, in 1949. Daarna begon ze een nieuwe carrière als graficus.
In 2022/23 presenteerde Kunstmuseum Den Haag hun eerste tentoonstelling in Nederland.

Josef - painter, designer, and teacher - and Anni Albers - textile artist and printmaker - are among the twentieth century's most important abstract artists. They met and married during their formative years at the Bauhaus in Germany. In 1933, they moved to America and had a remarkable influence in the United States at Black Mountain College and during their intensely productive period in Connecticut.
In 2022/23, Kunstmuseum The Hague had a great exhibition of their work.

Panorama Mesdag

Panorama Mesdag
In 1881 schilderde Hendrik Willem Mesdag het Panorama van Scheveningen.
Je kijkt 360º in het rond. Je verkent het vergezicht op de zee, de duinen en het oude vissersdorp Scheveningen. Een strandleven vol met bomschuiten, visserslui, paarden, strandliefhebbers en badkoetsen.

Byblos

Byblos is een tentoonstelling in Rijksmuseum van Oudheden in Leiden over ’s werelds oudste havenstad in Libanon. Vanaf 3000 v.Chr. speelde Byblos een ongekend grote rol in het Middellandse Zeegebied en het Midden-Oosten, onder andere door de handel in cederhout. Een sinds 6500 v.Chr. bewoond vissersdorpje groeide uit tot een welvarende stad en werd de eerste internationale zeehaven ter wereld.
Egyptenaren, Assyriërs, Babyloniërs, Feniciërs, Grieken en Romeinen lieten er hun sporen na.

Byblos is an exhibition at Rijksmuseum van Oudheden in Leiden NL, about the world’s most ancient port in Lebanon. Byblos, a town situated on the coast of present-day Lebanon, played an extraordinary role in the Mediterranean and Middle East from 3000 BC, thanks to the trade in cedar wood. A simple fishing village that had been inhabited since 6500 BC, grew into a prosperous city and became the world’s first international seaport.
Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans left their mark on the city.

Manhattan Masters. Meesterlijk.

In Manhattan Masters (Rembrandt and Friends from the Frick NYC) toont het Mauritshuis het mooiste van het mooiste uit de The Frick Collection in New York. De tien schilderijen die we in deze tentoonstelling laten zien verruilden Europa meer dan 100 jaar geleden voor Amerika en zijn sindsdien nooit meer in Europa te zien geweest. Bij hoge uitzondering leent The Frick Collection ze aan ons uit. Onder hen het beroemde Zelfportret van Rembrandt uit 1658.

The Mauritshuis Anniversary year concludes with a very special exhibition: ten paintings from The Frick Collection in New York. A one-time opportunity to view this selection of paintings in Europe, which left the continent more than a hundred years ago and have been in the United States ever since.One of the greatest masterpieces on view will be Rembrandt’s self-portrait from 1658. The painter immortalised himself many times, but many consider this self-portrait to be one of the very best.

Giuseppe Penone

Overzichtstentoonstelling van Giuseppe Penone in Voorlinden
Met zijn sculpturen, installaties en fotografie benadrukt Giuseppe Penone telkens de onlosmakelijke band tussen mens en natuur. Hij werkt met materialen die hij rechtstreeks uit de natuur haalt, zoals bomen, marmer en zelfs aardappelen. Hij kneedt, beitelt, timmert en zaagt, op zoek naar sporen van een geleefd leven en onzichtbare groeiprocessen.

For Giuseppe Penone, nature is – and trees in particular are – both subject and material. In his sculptures, installations and drawings he incorporates tree trunks, leaves, marble and leather. In his poetic oeuvre he reveals our intimate connection with nature and makes us aware of its creative and transformative cycle and forces. For example, in Ripetere il bosco (1968) Penone peels off the annual rings of a tree to reveal its origins. In this way he unlocks growth processes that often remain invisible to the human eye.
