The Rembrandt-Velázquez exhibition in Rijksmuseum Amsterdam is an excellent presentation of the great masters from the 17th century in the Netherlands and Spain.

Jaume Plensa

De Spaanse beeldhouwer Jaume Plensa (1955) geniet wereldwijd grote faam met zijn metershoge sculpturen van vrouwenhoofden in de openbare ruimte. Ze hebben de ogen gesloten en bieden een bijna meditatieve aanblik.

Jaume Plensa, (Barcelona, 1955) is a world-renowned sculptor best known for his constructions in the public space resembling the heads of women that are multiple meters tall. With their eyes closed, they have an almost meditative expression.

Do Ho Suh

In museum Voorlinden in Wassenaar is de eerste Nederlandse soloshow van de Zuid-Koreaanse kunstenaar Do Ho Suh (1962) te zien.  Do Ho Suh is geïnteresseerd in hoe mensen zich verhouden tot de ruimten waarin ze leven en wat het betekent om ‘thuis’ te zijn. Dat zien we terug in zijn architecturale installaties; hypergedetailleerde replica’s die hij van zijn voormalige woonhuizen maakt. Tot en met details als deurklinken, lichtschakelaars en ornamenten zijn de woningfragmenten nagemaakt; met de hand, in textiel, met behulp van traditionele Koreaanse naai- en borduurtechnieken.

On display in Museum Voorlinden at Wassenaar NL: the very first solo show in the Netherlands to feature South Korean artist Do Ho Suh (b. 1962). Do Ho Suh is interested in the way in which we, as human beings, relate to the spaces in which we live and what it means to be ‘at home’. The artist’s replicas of his previous homes, made by hand and recreated down to the smallest detail, capture an experience that lies somewhere between a dream and reality.
