Uit de stal van Bosch

Voor de tentoonstelling Uit de stal van Bosch. Jheronimus Bosch en de Aanbidding der Koningen brengt het museum een origineel werk van de wereldberoemde Bossche kunstenaar terug naar zijn geboortestad 's-Hertogenbosch: het schilderij De Aanbidding der Koningen uit The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Afgebeeld zijn de drie koningen die hulde brengen aan het Christuskind op de schoot van Maria.

Het Noordbrabants Museum in Den Bosch displays the exhibition From Bosch's Stable. Hieronymus Bosch and The Adoration of the Magi. For this small exhibition the museum is bringing this work by the world-famous Den Bosch master himself back to the city where he was born.
The painting The Adoration of the Magi is on loan from The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. It depicts the three magi paying homage to the Christ Child, held in the lap of the Virgin Mary.

Caravaggio in Utrecht

De tentoonstelling Utrecht, Caravaggio en Europa brengt het Rome van 1600-1630 naar Utrecht.
Al tijdens zijn leven reikt Caravaggio’s (1571-1610) roem tot ver buiten Italië. Caravaggio vernieuwde de schilderkunst met zijn realisme, gevoel voor drama en een kenmerkend contrast tussen licht en donker. Hij kreeg veel navolgers, kunstenaars die bekend staan onder de term ‘caravaggisten’.
Gerard van Honthorst, Dirck van Baburen en Hendrick ter Brugghen zijn bekende nederlandse caravagisten.

The exhibition Utrecht, Caravaggio and Europe brings the Rome of 1600-1630 to Utrecht .
At the start of the Dutch Golden Age, Rome was the centre of the world. Young painters from across Europe made their way to the Eternal City, where – so the rumour went – the painter Caravaggio (1571-1610) had caused a revolution. A new realism in the art of painting, unparalleled drama, grand gestures and mysteries of light: everyone wanted to see it for themselves. Among them were the Utrecht painters Dirck van Baburen, Hendrick ter Brugghen and Gerard van Honthorst.

Boijmans renoveert

In januari 2019 start Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen met een grondige renovatie.
Het museumgebouw wordt teruggebracht naar de oorsprong van het ontwerp van architect Van der Steur. De collectie als tijdmachine, de vaste collectie, is vanaf januari gesloten. In de nieuwbouw van Boijmans verschijnen tot mei 2019 nog enkele tentoonstellingen. Daarna is het museum voor zeven jaar dicht. Voor het museum sloot maakte ik nog een keer een afscheidsrondje.

In January 2019, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen Rotterdam will start a major renovation which will last for seven years. The building with main collection of the museum is closed. In the modern building of the museum will be a few exhibitions on display till May 2019. There will be activities that take place elsewhere while the museum is being rebuilt. Before the closure, I made a last visit to say good-bye to so many beautiful works.
