Meisje met de kers

Portret van een zesjarig meisje, geschilderd door Jan Claesz, 1594.
De kers was het symbool voor 'de vrucht van het paradijs',
symbool voor een beloning voor een deugdzaam leven.
Maar, probeer het kersje vast te houden zoals het meisje dat doet en
u komt tot de ontdekking dat het niet kan. Het steeltje buigt door het
gewicht van de vrucht om.
