Mark Manders – Mindstudy: 

Een reis door de stilte van het denken.

Museum Voorlinden toont de solotentoonstelling Mindstudy van de Nederlandse kunstenaar Mark Manders. De tentoonstelling is een kans om in één ruimte door de stille, gelaagde wereld van Manders te dwalen — een universum waarin tijd lijkt stil te staan, woorden tot objecten worden en het menselijk bewustzijn tastbaar wordt gemaakt.

Mark Manders – Mindstudy

Dutch artist Mark Manders (1968) explores the quiet depths of human consciousness. The internationally acclaimed artist fixes thoughts and moments in sculptures, paintings and installations that hover between the tangible and the elusive. 
His oeuvre breathes a poetic tension: intimate and universal, concrete and mysterious.

Ivna Esajas - In The Garden of My Good Days
In Museum De Fundatie in Zwolle.

In The Garden of My Good Days is de eerste solo museum tentoonstelling van kunstenaar Ivna Esajas in Nederland. Ivna maakt grote tekeningen op doek, composities van figuren die het dagelijks leven en de wereld van zwarte mensen en de zwarte verbeelding verkennen. Ivna heeft een atelier in Amsterdam.

Nina Chanel Abney in Elleboogkerk

In a combination with the Jacob Lawrence exhibition, Kunsthal KADE in Amersfoort displays Heaven's Hotline, a lively and attractive installation of works  by American artist Nina Chanel Abney (1982) in the Elleboog Kerk (at the elbow church).

 

 

Netsuke

Japan Museum SieboldHuis in Leiden NL displays a selection of Netsuke. 

A netsuke is a small, hand-carved toggle used with traditional Japanese clothing. Kimonos didn’t have pockets, so people used cords (himo) to carry small items.  These cords were passed behind the belt (obi) and held in place with a netsuke to stop them from slipping. Wealthy townspeople especially liked to have detailed and elegant netsuke. Over time, they became not just practical tools, but also stylish items that showed the owner's status.

Een netsuke is een met de hand gesneden gordelknoop. De traditionele kimono had geen zakken. Om toch iets mee te kunnen nemen, werden er objecten bevestigd aan koorden (himo). Deze koorden werden achter de riem (obi) doorgehaald en aan de bovenkant aan een netsuke vastgemaakt die ervoor zorgde dat de koorden niet achter de obi doorgleden. Met name voor de rijke stadsbewoners werden de netsuke steeds mooier en verfijnder gemaakt. Netsuke werden daarmee objecten die de status van de drager uitstraalde.

 Lois Dodd / Framing The Ephemeral

Een prachtige tentoonstelling! 
Kunstmuseum Den Haag presenteert in het najaar van 2025 de eerste Europese overzichtstentoonstelling van de Amerikaanse schilder Lois Dodd (1927). 
Dodd is al acht decennia actief. Al die tijd houdt ze vast aan haar eigen vorm en stijl. 
Ze schildert op 98-jarige leeftijd nog bijna elke dag. Haar werken bevinden zich ergens op het spectrum tussen figuratie en abstractie. Ze schildert vooral wat ze tegenkomt in haar directe omgeving.

An absolutely gorgeous exhibition! 
This autumn, the Kunstmuseum Den Haag presents the first European retrospective exhibition of the American painter Lois Dodd (1927). Dodd has been active for almost eight decades, during which time she has remained faithful to her own form and style and, at the age of 98, she still paints almost every day. She works somewhere on the spectrum between figuration and abstraction. Her paintings are mostly observations of her immediate surroundings.
